The journey that inspired ScriptScreenAI began with a story—and evolved into a platform transforming how screenplays are analyzed, funded, and produced.
ScriptScreenAI was born long before artificial intelligence—its roots trace back to a solitary drive from New Jersey to Miami in 2000. Inspired by the worlds of One Hundred Years of Solitude and The Kennedy Women, a vivid multi-dimensional film appeared in my mind. Characters shifted between the magical realism of Macondo, the historical pulse of Manhattan, and the counterculture of the 60s and 70s.
That story became Manhattan Loves Macondo—a tale of two generations where history repeats, time advances, and fate challenges a family’s legacy. After capturing the story’s key points, I immersed myself in Michael Hauge’s Writing Screenplays That Sell and later continued development in South Africa, where I wrote the first draft.
Meeting acclaimed writer and film lecturer Leon van Nierop at TUT sparked a collaboration attempt—proposing a competition to elevate the script to Hollywood level. Although it didn’t gain the required quorum, the project continued to evolve.
With the rise of artificial intelligence, I revived the project, using modern tools to refine structure, character arcs, and narrative depth. Yet new questions emerged: screenplay analysis, project optimization, casting alignment, financial forecasting, and most importantly—connecting scripts with real funding and distribution partners.
These challenges inspired the creation of ScriptScreenAI.
Since its 2025 SaaS launch, ScriptScreenAI has become a pioneer in introducing AI-driven screenplay tools to the audiovisual industry across South Africa and the African continent.
